In case you haven't heard, GE Capital Information Technology is suing us. If you didn't know, you're in good company as I didn't either until I read about it in the paper on Monday. Just one little line that says "GE Capital Information Technology vs. Rockfish Interactive Corporation".
Maybe some of the other business owners or attorneys who read our blog can help me figure this one out.
About 2.5 years ago Ikon Office Solutions executed a 5 year lease on a printer with our then administrative assistant / bookkeeper. A few months later I noticed how high the fees were for this printer and called Ikon to come pick it up. It was at that point that I was informed there was a long-term lease on the printer. They sent me a copy of the agreement and of course my response was that this individual didn't have power to execute binding agreements on behalf of Rockfish. From my perspective an over-ambitious sales person most likely duped a naive assistant into signing a document that she didn't even understand.
Long story short they did come pick up the printer but have argued we still owe the balance of the lease. (I'm assuming GE buys the paperwork from Ikon which is why they are the ones wanting to collect). We'll go to court over the issue and let a judge work it out. I could have bought three cars or a small house for the price of this lease, but surely not without making sure I was the one signing the contract.
I did some Google research and found numerous complaints and lawsuits against Ikon. It appears that I'm only one of many that have had problems with them. If your a small business owner looking for a printer, may I recommend Sam's Club.
Now that I've gotten that off of my chest I can go back to working on earning customers through a great product, hard work and excellent customer service. Ikon's model just doesn't fit me, and I hope the judge agrees.
