America's Health Rankings launch this year with new site design and increased social media presence

Posted by Laura Gardner on Tuesday, December 06, 2011 in Rockfish Work

Today marks the annual release of America's Health Rankings, a project that we're very proud to be involved in. The rankings are essentially a report card of our state's health measured by various factors and this year we did an aesthetic redesign of the site and strenghened their social presence for a greater call to action.

There is also an interactive map that shows various health statistics state-by-state. As you click through the map, you can compare states measured by different factors such as air pollution and early pre-natal care.

You can also go to the new Facebook app called "Take Action For Change", where users can pledge an "Act of Health" and vote for a non-profit partner that will receive a donation from the United Health Foundation.

Grab an empty shoe box and give back

Posted by Laura Gardner on Thursday, November 03, 2011 in Rockfish Work

It's always rewarding to support clients, but it's even better when you can get behind a campaign that will make a difference in the lives of others - in this case our troops. American Signature Furniture and Value City Stores have partnered with Blue Star Mothers to collect shoe boxes filled with goodies that will be sent to U.S. troops serving overseas. To participate, just fill an empty shoebox with candy, an interesting article, mini football, batteries, soap, toothbrushes - whatever you believe will put a smile on a soldier’s face. Once the shoebox is filled, it can be dropped off at the nearest Value City Furniture or American Signature Furniture store, then the Blue Star Mothers will pick up the packages and ship them to our troops. You can find more information on Value City Furniture's Facebook page and American Signature Furniture's Facebook page

Rockfish helps United Health Foundation launch interactive data visualization tool

Posted by Rockfish Interactive on Tuesday, December 07, 2010 in Rockfish Work

Our clients at the UnitedHealth Foundation know their data.  For the last 20 years, they’ve compiled America’s Health Rankings – a state-by-state healthiness score of our nation pulling from over 40 health measures from immunization to obesity to sick days.  They approached Rockfish with a simple problem: help Americans understand what these numbers truly mean about our health as a nation, extend the publicity far beyond the new data release each year, and foster a year-round conversation about the issues.

Our solution takes dry data and makes it an interactive experience, allowing users to click through time and geography with just their mouse, gleaning insight from data that used to live only in charts and tables.  Users can even compare states side-by-side on any health measure to get a detailed view of how their home ranks against others.  But more than just a fun tool, State Health Stats can create conversation by letting users print, export or share any view to any of their social networks.  And most importantly, users are always one click away from finding out how to take action to make a difference in next year’s data.

Rockfish is truly excited to launch this site, not just because it shows what we can do with great data, but because it’s a project that can help us become a healthier America!

Enhancing the Sam's Club experience through mobile technology

Rockfish recently partnered with our client Sam's Club to launch smartphone applications on the iPhone, Android and Blackberry operating systems.  The Sam’s Club app will make it easier for members to make the right choices on products throughout the club as well as foster greater member interaction with Sam’s Club.  As the description in the App Store reads:

The must-have app for every Sam’s Club Member. Whether you’re on a road trip and need to find your nearest Club or in your own backyard planning a weekend shopping trip, you can locate convenient services and find out more about the items on your shopping list. And for Plus Members, checking your eValues? is now right at your fingertips.
